At Julie Stark Photography (JSP), our process starts with a phone consultation where we will discuss your ideas and desires for the photo session. The photoshoot time frame depends on the child. The shoot may be as short as an hour or as long as 2.5 hours. It’s so important for children to be comfortable so we can capture them naturally and authentically. Most importantly, *don’t be nervous*, we’ll make it fun, and relaxing.
Photo sessions can be in your home or at an agreed upon alternate location (playground, etc). It is important that your child arrives well-rested and well fed! As well, the idea is to maintain an element of playfulness for the child, so it is important for the parents themselves to be relaxed and rested(if it’s possible!). I encourage parents to bring along favorite cds or toys for their child. If the child isn’t feeling well, it is advisable to re-schedule (within a 6-week timeframe) so we can capture your child at their best on another day.
In terms of clothing, I suggest simple, solid, light-colored clothing. Blue jeans, overalls, khaki pants, sundresses, plain t-shirts, and bare feet, are all timeless. Patterns, stripes or logos aren’t a great idea for a photoshoot. Newborns are best photographed without any clothes or in something plain and simple, such as an undershirt. Feel free to bring several outfits to the session and I will help you choose which ones are the most appropriate. If you are having more than one child photographed and they will be in the picture together, then it is best to have their outfits coordinate. Matching clothing creates a sense of harmony and balance and makes the portrait more pleasing to the eye. The attention is taken off the clothes and the eye is drawn to the faces.
About 2-4 weeks after your photoshoot, you will be notified that your proofs are ready for you to view on our website. This process makes it very easy and convenient for you. You will be able to log in to our website with a username and password provided by us. Your proofs will be available on our website for 2 weeks ONLY. During those 2 weeks, you’ll choose which photos you want. Once you know which ones you’d like to order, we can speak on the phone, and you can ask me any questions you may have (i.e sizes, black & white, sepia, color). Please choose your photos in a timely manner, as there is an additional fee to re-post the proofs once they’ve been taken off the website. Editing charges may apply.
Finally, my ultimate goal in photographing your child is to capture them as they are……….natural and authentic……..and to provide you with beautiful memories to last a lifetime.
